The Parallel In Scripture That Proves The Divinity of Christ

                                             

The New Testament has many cross references to the Old Testament that points to Jesus Christ being the Messiah and the Son of God. One that stood out to me was in the book of Jonah. In Chapter one, Jonah is on a boat with his crew when suddenly a raging storm comes to threaten them. Here is what the Scripture says:

'Then they said to him, “What shall we do to you, that the sea may quiet down for us?” For the sea grew more and more tempestuous. He said to them, “Pick me up and hurl me into the sea; then the sea will quiet down for you, for I know it is because of me that this great tempest has come upon you.” Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to get back to dry land, but they could not, for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them. Therefore they called out to the Lord, “O Lord, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not on us innocent blood, for you, O Lord, have done as it pleased you.” So they picked up Jonah and hurled him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging. '" (Jonah 1:11-15). 

This shows the sovereignty of God because the weather in which he created obeys his command. Similarly  to Jonah, Jesus was on a boat with his disciples when abruptly a storm came to cause chaos. The Scriptures says: 

'And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”  And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”' (Mark 4:37-41)

The crew that was with Jonah was afraid and asked him to call upon his God to save them. Like the situation with Jonah, the disciples were terrified so called upon Jesus for help. Similar to God stopping the storm in Jonah's day, Jesus calms the storm that threatened his disciples to show who he truly was. This shows that Jesus is God because the weather obeys his word. When I first read this I was in shock because I realized the connection between the two passages which confirms that Christ was really 100% man and 100% God.

For I have shown from the Scriptures, that no one of the sons of Adam is as to everything, and absolutely, called God, or named Lord.
